Salle DeCesare
Fencing with friends for fun & fitness
Salle DeCesare is an informal, non-profit association of fun-loving fencers. We continue the instructional tradition of Maestro John DeCesare in the San Francisco Bay Area. We strive to share our passions for good fencing, good humor, and good friends.
"Have fun!" Coach Greg Chow says. "If you're not having fun, don't do it."
Before the covid pandemic started in 2020, our activities had centered on FUHSD Adult School classes taught by Coach Greg, who had succeeded Maestro John as instructor in 2010, after over two decades as John's assistant. That unfortunately ended with the pandemic and hasn’t resumed.
But as soon as folks could gather outdoors again, we informally got together at Serra Park in Sunnyvale, CA. And we’ve been doing it ever since, on Thursday evenings (~7:00-10:00pm), all year round — the occasional rainstorm and holiday excepted. We have portable fencing strips and lights for this casual, unofficial, at-your-own-risk, community activity.
When we do get rained out, we often visit our friends at The Fencing Center (TFC) in San Jose, under their excellent roof.
