En garde. Ready. Fence!
Salle DeCesare is an informal, non-profit association of fun-loving fencers continuing the instructional tradition of Maestro John DeCesare in the San Francisco Bay Area. We strive to share our passions for good fencing, good humor and good comradeship.
"Have fun!" Coach Greg Chow says. "If you're not having fun, don't do it."
Salle activities center on the FUHSD Adult Community Education classes taught by Coach Greg, who succeeded Maestro John as instructor in 2010, after over 2 decades as John's assistant. This fall, both classes will be on Wednesday nights, probably at Monta Vista High School.
We're also a highly social bunch, gathering casually for summer fencing in the park, teaching at the Northern California Renaissance Faire, patronizing Jake's, and sharing other community activities.
From novice to competitive, fun-loving fencers may find a home with Salle DeCesare!
Visit/Write to Maestro John
Maestro John is in a care home in Salinas. He isn't as mobile as he'd like, and his memory gets cloudy, but he is still Maestro John and he'd love to hear from his fencers.
For information on visiting, speak with Tom or Karen. For his mailing address, see our Yahoo Group archive (or ask!).
Fence in the Park
Informally, unofficially, you'll find many of us at Serra Park in Sunnyvale on summer Thursday evenings (until Labor Day). Come play! We'd love to be all set up and bouting by 7:30 pm.
